Date: 19th May 2025Time: 10:20 AM – 11:30 AMVenue: Provincial Department of Education, Central ProvinceSubject: Discussion objective by Mr.Muthulingam, Executive Director, ISD Introduction of the Bionity Program by the JOBA Team

A meeting was held with the Provincial Director of Education Mr.Nihal Alahakoon on the 19th of May 2025, from 10:20 AM to 11:30 AM, to introduce and discuss the Bionity Program proposed by the JOBA team. During the meeting, the JOBA representatives introduced the Bionity Program as a nature-centric life practice initiative aimed at nurturing sustainable habits among children. They emphasized that the program is designed as a tri-party initiative involving families, communities, and schools, working collaboratively to instill eco-conscious values and practices in daily life.

The JOBA team highlighted the alignment between the Bionity Program and the existing national initiative, the Clean Sri Lanka Program. They pointed out the potential to enhance school-based components of this program through Bionity’s values and methodologies. The team also expressed their readiness to provide technical support for curriculum development, as well as training for both teachers and students in Sri Lanka, to ensure effective program implementation.

During the discussion, the Provincial Director raised a concern about the increasing parental focus on tuition classes, academic grading, and performance achievements, which is resulting in students being overburdened and stressed. He emphasized the importance of not adding further pressure on students through additional programs.

In response, the JOBA team clarified that the Bionity Program is not intended to be an academic burden but rather a set of life practices integrated into students’ everyday routines. They aim to introduce it at the grassroots level so that these practices gradually become part of students’ lifestyles over time.

To provide context and reassurance, the team also shared how the Bionity Program is already being practiced in Malaysian schools, where it has been successfully incorporated into the school curriculum and embraced by the broader school community. They believe a similar approach could be adopted in Sri Lanka, with positive outcomes for student well-being and environmental awareness.

The meeting concluded with mutual interest in exploring the feasibility of piloting the Bionity Program in selected schools. Both parties agreed to continue the dialogue and collaborate on the next steps to evaluate and potentially implement the program in alignment with the local education system.
